Upon your arrival at Leh Airport, an Alkof Holidays representative will warmly welcome you and escort you to your hotel. The rest of the day is reserved for leisure, allowing you to acclimatize to Leh's altitude and climate.

In the afternoon, visit the historic Leh Palace, also known as Lachen Palkar Palace, a former royal residence that offers panoramic views of the city. Next, explore the serene Shanti Stupa, a striking white-domed structure perched on a hilltop. Later, take some time to wander through the local market, where you can shop for authentic Tibetan handicrafts, including Prayer Wheels, Stoles, and Pashmina Shawls. Enjoy an overnight stay at the hotel.

After enjoying breakfast at the hotel, set off to explore the enchanting Sham Valley. This visit offers a deeply moving experience, as the site was established by the Indian Army to honor the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the Indo-Pak wars, offering a poignant reminder of their valor.

Next, visit the revered Kali Mata Mandir, followed by the ancient Spituk Gompa, a 11th-century Buddhist monastery known for its spiritual significance and architectural beauty. Continue to Gurudwara Patthar Sahib, a sacred site built by the Lamas of Leh to commemorate Guru Nanak Dev's visit in 1517. Experience the curious phenomenon at Magnetic Hill, where the road creates an optical illusion of an uphill drive. Finally, marvel at the breathtaking confluence of the Indus and Zanskar rivers before heading back to your hotel for an overnight stay.

After breakfast at the hotel, set out on an unforgettable journey to the breathtaking Nubra Valley, often referred to as Ldumra, or the "Valley of Flowers." Nestled between the towering Karakoram and Ladakh ranges of the Himalayas, Nubra Valley sits at an impressive altitude of 10,000 feet above sea level.

The drive to Nubra Valley takes you across the renowned Khardungla Pass, the world’s highest motorable pass at 18,360 feet. As you traverse this legendary route, be prepared to be awed by the dramatic landscapes, with panoramic views of snow-clad peaks and rugged mountains. The journey also includes crossing a remarkable bridge laid over a glacier, a feat that earned a place in the Guinness Book of World Records. Upon arrival in Nubra Valley, check into your camp and unwind amidst the stunning natural beauty for an overnight stay.

After breakfast, drive toward the border village of Turtuk, a scenic settlement located at the crossroads of the Himalayan and Karakoram ranges, overlooking the Shyok River. This village is home to the Balti tribe, known for its unique culture, traditions, and delicious cuisine.

Turtuk was under Pakistani control until 1971, when it was reclaimed by India following a fierce war. From the village, you can even catch a glimpse of the Pakistani side of the border. The legacy of the conflict is still felt, as many families are divided, with relatives residing on either side of the border. Turtuk offers some of the most picturesque views, making it a paradise for photography enthusiasts. The village is also famous for its high-quality apricots and the traditional sword dance performed during important occasions and marriages. As the locals say, the only thing sweeter than the apricots in Turtuk are the smiles of its people. In the evening, return to Nubra for dinner and an overnight stay.

After breakfast, visit the Diskit Monastery, the largest and oldest monastery in the Nubra Valley, renowned for its towering 106-foot statue of Maitreya Buddha and stunning panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes. After exploring the monastery, begin your journey back to Leh, retracing your path through the Khardungla Pass, the highest motorable road in the world, where you can once again take in the breathtaking vistas of the Himalayas.

Upon arrival in Leh, spend the evening exploring the vibrant Leh bazaar. Here, you can shop for unique souvenirs, such as traditional Ladakhi handicrafts, jewelry, and textiles, or simply soak in the lively atmosphere of the local market. Later, enjoy dinner and an overnight stay at the hotel.

After breakfast, embark on a scenic drive to Pangong Lake, situated on the Indo-China border. Along the way, you’ll traverse the Changla Pass, the third-highest motorable road in the world, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes.

Pangong Lake, a jewel of the Leh-Ladakh region, is renowned for its stunning beauty. This serene lake, famous as a backdrop for numerous films, captivates visitors with its crystal-clear waters and the majestic mountains that surround it. Nestled near the Chushul Mountains, the lake’s cold, saline waters are a sanctuary for various bird species, making it a must-visit destination for nature lovers.

In the evening, begin your return journey to Leh. Once back in Leh, enjoy a relaxing evening at your leisure, followed by dinner and an overnight stay at the hotel.

Today’s itinerary takes you on a captivating tour of some of Leh's most historic and picturesque monasteries.

Shey Gompa: Located approximately 15 kilometers from Leh, Shey Gompa was once the summer palace of the Ladakhi kings. Constructed in the early 17th century by King Deldan Namgyal, the Shey Palace is surrounded by numerous Gompas and Stupas. The highlight of Shey Gompa is the impressive 12-meter tall Shakyamuni Buddha statue housed within the Dresthang Gompa. This ancient site offers a glimpse into Ladakh’s royal past and spiritual heritage.

Thiksey Gompa: Situated around 17 kilometers from Shey, Thiksey Gompa is renowned for its stunning beauty and architectural grandeur. This 600-year-old monastery, belonging to the Gelukpa order, is often considered one of the most beautiful monasteries in Ladakh. It features a variety of temples adorned with intricate murals, ancient manuscripts, and an iconic Buddha statue at its entrance, making it a must-visit for both spiritual seekers and history enthusiasts.

Hemis Monastery:** Approximately 45 kilometers south of Leh, Hemis Monastery is one of the largest and most significant monasteries in Ladakh. Founded in the early 17th century by the Drukpa order, Hemis is set in a picturesque valley surrounded by streams and long Mani walls. The monastery's vibrant decorations and unique setting make it a standout among Ladakh’s monasteries.

3 Idiots School (Druk Padma Karpo School): Famous for its appearance in the Bollywood film "3 Idiots," this eco-friendly school, also known as Druk White Lotus School, is celebrated for its innovative and sustainable design. Located near Leh, the school was recognized as one of the most beautiful schools in the world by BBC London in 2016. Its architecture is designed to withstand seismic activity, making it both functional and visually striking.

Sindhu Ghat: Situated about 10 kilometers upstream from Shey Monastery along the Indus River, Sindhu Ghat offers a serene and scenic experience. The river originates from Man Sarovar Lake and Mount Kailash in Tibet. The dramatic landscape, characterized by barren mountains and rocky terrain, provides a striking backdrop. If you visit during the Sindhu Darshan Festival in June, you can enjoy cultural activities, campfires, and other festive events that celebrate the region’s vibrant heritage.

After exploring these remarkable sites, return to your hotel for a relaxing overnight stay, reflecting on the rich cultural and natural beauty you’ve experienced throughout the day.

In the morning, we'll ensure your timely transfer to Leh Airport for your onward journey.

Going to Ladakh was a very special experience and I would recommend this tour hi... Going to Ladakh was a very special experience and I would recommend this tour highly. The landscape was absolutely spectacular and the blend of history, culture and geostrategic importance was fascinating. My tour with Alkof Holidays was very well organised. I requested an extra day be added to my trip and they organised a day of visits to Hemis and Thiksey Monasteries and Shey Palace. My guide Riyaz was fantastic, very kind and provided me with lots of insights about the region. There are too many highlights to list but the top of the list would be Pangong Lake. Read more

Both the guide and driver were highly professional, and the guide's knowledge was impressive. However, I would like to suggest a small improvement: crossing the Changla Pass twice was a bit inconvenient. It would have been more efficient to travel directly from Nubra Valley to Pangong Lake, crossing the Changla Pass only once. Read more
