The flight to Paro is one of the most spectacular in the Himalayas, offering breathtaking views and an exhilarating descent into Bhutan. Upon arrival, you'll be greeted by cool, fresh mountain air. After completing immigration and baggage collection, meet our representative and drive to Thimphu, Bhutan's capital. En route, stop at Chuzom, where the Thimphu and Paro rivers meet, adorned by Tibetan, Nepalese, and Bhutanese stupas. Before reaching Chuzom, you'll see Tschogang Lhakhang, a private 15th-century temple dedicated to Balaha, the excellent horse.

In Thimphu, check into your hotel. This unique city blends modern development with ancient traditions and has a population of about 90,000, making it one of the world's few capitals without a traffic light. Visit Simply Bhutan, a living museum showcasing the cultural heritage of the Bhutanese people. In the evening, take an exploratory walk around Thimphu's main street and market area, and visit the Local Crafts Bazaar to shop for traditional Bhutanese arts and crafts, including hand-woven textiles, Thangka paintings, and jewelry. Overnight at the hotel in Thimphu (Altitude 2400m).

After breakfast, embark on a sightseeing tour of Thimphu Valley, beginning with the National Library, which houses an extensive collection of priceless Buddhist manuscripts. Next, visit the Institute for Zorig Chusum (Painting School), where students undergo a six-year training in Bhutan’s 13 traditional arts and crafts. Continue to the Textile Museum to explore one of Bhutan’s most distinctive art forms.

Later, head to Buddha Point (Kuensel Phodrang), where you can offer prayers to the largest Buddha statue in the country and enjoy panoramic views of the Thimphu Valley. Proceed to the King's Memorial Chorten, a monument to world peace and prosperity built in memory of Bhutan’s third king, His Majesty Jigme Dorji Wangchuk, where locals continuously circumambulate while spinning prayer wheels. Finally, visit Trashichhoedzong, an impressive fortress and monastery that houses the Secretariat, the throne room of His Majesty the King, and serves as the summer residence of the Chief Abbot. Overnight stay at the hotel in Thimphu.

After breakfast, check out from the hotel and embark on a scenic drive to Punakha. En route, stop at Dochula Pass to take in stunning views of the eastern Himalayas, framed by 108 memorial chortens. Continue to Chimi Lhakhang, also known as the Temple of Fertility, perched on a hillock in the center of the valley. It is believed that couples who pray here are often blessed with children. The trail leading to the temple winds through lush rice fields and the quaint village of Pana, providing a rare glimpse into local village life. Later, visit the majestic Punakha Dzong, an impressive fortress located at the confluence of the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers. This massive structure, once the capital of Bhutan until 1955, still serves as the winter residence for the central monk body. Overnight at the hotel in Punakha.

After breakfast, embark on a scenic drive to Bumthang, crossing the Pelela Pass (3,100m). En route, visit Chendbji Chorten, an 18th-century stupa modeled after Swayambhunath in Kathmandu, featuring eyes painted at the four cardinal points. Stop for lunch at Trongsa, followed by a visit to the impressive Trongsa Dzong, the ancestral home of Bhutan’s royal family. Built in 1648, this massive structure served as the seat of power over central and eastern Bhutan. Both the first and second kings ruled from this seat, and all four kings were invested as Trongsa Penlop (governor) before ascending the throne. The Dzong cascades down the ridge in multiple levels, dominating the landscape. Visit Ta Dzong, perched on the mountainside, which was built to guard Trongsa.

Continue the drive to Bumthang, crossing the Yutong La Pass (3,400m). Along the way, visit Chumey Valley, where you can explore the Yathra weaving center, known for its vibrant woolen fabrics, and nearby villages. Upon arrival in Bumthang, check into your hotel. Bumthang, one of Bhutan’s most spectacular valleys and the heartland of Buddhism, welcomes you with wide, open cultivated fields and dense conifer forests. Overnight at the hotel in Bumthang (Altitude 3000m).

After breakfast, embark on a tour of the Bumthang Valley, beginning with a visit to Kurje Lhakhang, where the saint Padma Sambhava subdued a local demon and left his body imprint on a rock. Continue to Jambey Lhakhang, a 7th-century temple, and Tamshing Lhakhang, known for housing some of the oldest wall paintings in Bhutan. Next, explore Jakar Dzong, the administrative center of the region. Stroll through the village, browse the small handicrafts shop at the town's entrance, and perhaps enjoy refreshments at a local restaurant.

In the afternoon, take a short hike to Lhodrak Kharchhu Monastery, located about 3 km from Chamkhar town. Founded in 1984 by Namkhai Nyingpo Rinpoche, recognized at a young age by H.H. the 14th Dalai Lama and H.H. the 16th Karmapa as the reincarnation of a Tibetan lama, the monastery is dedicated to preserving Tibetan culture. The monks' curriculum includes daily prayers, dharma dances, mandala drawing, learning sacred ritual melodies, making sacrificial objects, and studying grammar, poetry, and the stages of tantra. Overnight at the hotel in Bumthang.

After an early breakfast, check out from your hotel and start your journey towards Mebartsho (Burning Lake), a sacred site where Bhutan's greatest treasure revealer, Pema Lingpa, uncovered hidden treasures in the 15th century. This revered site, nestled in the Tang Valley, holds deep spiritual significance and is a peaceful spot for reflection.

Continue your drive to Ura Sheltangla Pass (3250m), where on a clear day, you'll be greeted with spectacular views of Mt. Gangar Puem Sum, Bhutan’s tallest peak, soaring at 25,000 feet. From the pass, embark on a short, scenic hike descending along the ancient mule tracks leading to Ura village, one of the highest and most picturesque settlements in Bhutan. Visit the Ura Temple at the heart of the village, offering a glimpse into traditional Bhutanese life.

In the afternoon, proceed towards Trongsa, a historic town nestled in the center of Bhutan. Enjoy the scenic drive through the rolling hills and lush valleys before reaching your hotel for an overnight stay in Trongsa.

After breakfast, check out from the hotel and embark on a scenic drive towards Gangtey, a stunning valley in the Phobjikha region. En route, you'll pass through serene landscapes, dense forests, and traditional Bhutanese villages. Upon arrival in Gangtey, visit the Gangtey Monastery, an important Nyingmapa monastery perched on a small hill, offering panoramic views of the Phobjikha valley. The valley is also the winter home of the rare and endangered black-necked cranes, which migrate from Tibet.

After a leisurely stop in Gangtey, continue your journey to Punakha, the former capital of Bhutan. The drive offers breathtaking views of the Bhutanese countryside, including terraced rice fields and lush green hills. Upon arrival in Punakha, check into your hotel for an overnight stay. Enjoy the rest of the evening at leisure, preparing for the next day's exploration of Punakha’s iconic landmarks.

After breakfast at the hotel, proceed to Paro and check into your hotel. After lunch, visit Ta Dzong, originally a watchtower, now housing the National Museum, which displays antique Thangka paintings, textiles, weapons, and historical artifacts. Next, walk to Rinpung Dzong, a fortress with beautiful wooden galleries and Buddhist wall paintings. In the evening, indulge in a traditional hot stone bath (additional cost) at a local farmhouse, a centuries-old Bhutanese practice believed to relax joints and alleviate health issues. Overnight stay at the hotel in Paro.

Today, embark on a full-day excursion to Taktshang Lhakhang, also known as Tiger’s Nest. Perched on a cliffside 900 meters above the Paro Valley floor, it is one of Bhutan’s most famous monasteries. Legend has it that Guru Rinpoche arrived here on the back of a tigress and meditated at this monastery, hence the name "Tiger’s Nest." Recognized as a sacred place, it was visited by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal in 1646 and is a pilgrimage site for Bhutanese, who aim to visit at least once in their lifetime. Though a fire severely damaged the main structure on April 19, 1998, the monastery has been restored to its original splendor. The hike to Tiger’s Nest takes approximately 5 hours round trip. In the evening, visit Kyichu Lhakhang, a 7th-century temple and one of the 108 temples built in the Himalayas by Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo. The construction of this temple marked the introduction of Buddhism in Bhutan. Overnight at the hotel in Paro.

After breakfast at the hotel, drive to the airport for your flight to your onward destination. Our representative will assist you with exit formalities and bid you farewell.

Our family had a customized tour that included all three national parks for tiger safaris as well as the traditional golden triangle tour. We had 2 different drivers during the tour that picked us up at the airport or drove us to the next location. The drivers were always early, extremely friendly and helpful, and the cars were immaculate. We stayed at six different hotels that were picked out for us. They were all very nice and I would stay at them again. The guides at each location were very knowledgeable and friendly. The company itself stayed in contact with me throughout the trip to make sure I did not need anything. I would highly recommend this company. This tour was much more flexible and convenient than participating in a group tour where everyone has to keep up with a group pace. Read more
